The Asian Football Confederation’s Technical Study Group (TSG) nods off the Vietnam national football team for their amazing and dynamic sportsmanship in the AFC Asian Cup 2019 in UAE. The group of experienced technical analysts in sports has been tasked to assess all 51 matches of the Asian Cup 2019. TSG is also in charge of generating the final Technical Report at the end of the tournament.
In the 17th edition of the continental championship, the TSG has overseen 48 matches in the continental championship. At the beginning of the tournament, the TSG saw a promising potential in the Golden Dragons, bringing them utter glee and only praise for the Vietnam team for reaching the quarterfinals of the cup.
“Technical observers were quick to recognize early dividends on AFC’s investment in development, such as Vietnam’s achievement of reaching the quarterfinals with more than half of the squad that had finished as runners-up at the AFC U-23 Championship in China only a year ago” according to a statement in the AFC website.
Vietnam coach Park Hang-seo got his team to the final of the U-23 continental as early as last year prior to the semifinal of the 2018 Asian Games. Claiming their victory at the AFF Suzuki Cup in 2018 towards the end of the year was just the cherry on top of a fantastic year for Vietnam.
TSG also commended other teams who have exhibited impressive efforts like Thailand’s Water Elephants and the Kyrgyz Republic for demonstrating their competitive spirit at the continental level. Qatar was also recognized for their player Almoez Ali who is currently the leading goalscorer in the whole cup after winning the golden boot at the AFC U-23 Championship in 2018.
A notable member of the TSG includes Andy Roxburgh, the AFC Technical Director, Wim Kovermans, the AFC Deputy Technical Director, TSG Administrator, Jose Carpio, and the group’s technical writer, Graham Turner.
