Emirates Stadium hosted another Europa League match which sent an Arsenal player with a massive ankle injury home. The Arsenal- Lisbon match ended with zero goals for both teams, but the match results were secondary to Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck’s injury.
Arsenal’s Unai Emery says “He is at the hospital. The news is that we are going to wait, but we think it’s a serious injury. “It’s clear that we’re with him in these minutes. He’s a very good person and his commitment with us is very big. It’s a very big injury for him, for us, for all people who like and love him as a person.”
When 27-year-old Welbeck went for a jump towards a header, he, unfortunately, made a bad landing, putting all his weight on his ankle which eventually led to a massive injury. The Arsenal forward received immediate attention from ten medical personnel. His leg was placed in a protective brace as he was given oxygen and was carried off the pitch in a stretcher.
Other Arsenal players were struck by the injury, “They saw it was a big injury,” Emery added. Welbeck has proven time and time again this past season that he was a reliable player with five goals this past season. He was also named to be part of Gareth Southgate’s latest squad for friendlies against the US and Nations League games against Croatia.
