Manchester City’s 24-year-old French footballer Benjamin Mendy has been testing manager Pep Guardiola with his behavior. Not just normal behavior, but his social media behavior. Guardiola says “Mendy has a lot of things to improve and hopefully we can convince him to forget a little bit the social media and improve a few things.”
After a 2-0 win against Arsenal last Sunday, the manager stated how exasperating Mendy’s performance can be. He can be a really great asset at one point and be completely distracted and off on another. The French left-back is starting another Premier League season after an injury wherein he excelled and assisted in both goals.
Pep Guardiola urges Mendy to stay a little more focused in all his performances. He then followed by saying that the 24-year-old should channel more of his energy on his physical behavior on the team as a player and less on his behavior online.
The ironic thing about this statement by Guardiola is how Mendy reacted to it on Twitter. He retweeted a tweet from the official Manchester City account with “Oops” and a laughing emoji.
Nevertheless, Guardiola was pleased by the performance of his team against Arsenal. They may have had some first-time luck since it was also the first game new manager Unai Emery in managing Arsenal. “I think going away to the Emirates is always so complicated. Especially in the first game when Arsenal has a new manager” Guardiola adds.
