Pep Guardiola Accepts Charge for Supporting a Political Statement

Wearing a yellow ribbon to a football match has recently placed Manchester City’s manager on a pedestal. Last November 2017, Pep Guardiola shared to the press the reason behind the yellow ribbon’s political statement. He revealed that he wore the yellow ribbon to rally behind Catalonia’s political prisoners.

The Football Association charged him with the activist act and gave him until 18:00 GMT March 5, 2018, to remove the yellow ribbon to be free of charge. A hearing has been requested with a date yet to be set after his admission to the charge.

Last December 2017, FA approached Manchester City’s manager regarding the charge and had previously issued 2 formal warnings. According to the FA, Guardiola violated the FA kit and advertising regulations. They released a statement saying that he can wear it elsewhere but not during any matches.

Political Upheavals in Catalonia, Spain

The Catalan Independence Movement’s members Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sanchez were held without bail. The independence vote in October held two key members and was detained despite being deemed illegal according to the Spanish government.”

In spite, the Football Association’s inconsistent and contradictory policies, Manchester City’s manager will continue to wear the yellow ribbon when he can which is basically before and after any match.

“All the politicians that are in prison, I hope they can leave and go back home soon with their families and continue living the lives they deserve,” said Guardiola as he accepted the FA’s charge.
